Sustainability principles have been pursued by
partially digging the building into the hillside and
by the planning of extensive earth covered roofs.
This will give the building thermal mass and
passively maintain stable ambient temperatures.
A ground source heat pump is also incorporated.
The provision of a large kitchen garden will help
make the food supply to the lodge independent.
The materials pallet proposed includes natural
stone, timber and the use of raw metal work. The
intention is that these materials will weather over
time and integrate the building with its environs.
