Sutherland Hospital
Sutherland HealthOne is a new-build chronic
care facility within Sutherland Hospital
campus, providing a range of consultation,
treatment, group spaces and administration
spaces, to serve as a coordination point for
local health promotion and illness prevention
programmes.
This project is one of several that Nordon Jago
Architects have carried out on behalf of South
East Sydney Local Health District (SESLHD),
each of which have been conducted with NJA
in the Principal Design Consultant (PDC) role.
NJA were responsible for all subconsultant
engagements, concept and detailed design
documentation through all project stages,
including cost planning, delivery of full
tender documents and traditional contract
administration role during the construction
phase.
This project involved the initial development
of an extensive Project Working Brief,
working closely with a wide range of clinical
user groups and other stakeholders, whilst
the available site identified for development
was also heavily constrained, being located
immediately adjacent to south-facing windows
of an existing building. This presented
considerable challenges in balancing the
proposed accommodation against available
space, site conditions and budget.
The successfully delivered building comprised a range of patient and staff spaces,
which were tailored to comply with Health Facility Guideline requirements, but also
interconnected so as to achieve the flexibility and multi-function usage required by the
brief. Accommodation included reception and waiting areas, group rooms and drop-in
spaces, as well as consult, interview and office areas.
